What the hell, damn guy?!

Heh - so yeah, it's been... uh, well over a year since my last post here.  Many folks have complained.  I guess I owe it to everyone to at least let you all in on where I've been and what I've been up to...

Short version: major life changes, and not so much techno.

Long version: click "read more".

What's been up?  Well, it's been a bit of a wild ride...

- in April 2007 Erin and I lost our jobs, but got nice severance packages.

- in May 2007 Erin and I broke up.

- June through September (which were supposed to be 100% music time) were a bit of a blur as I tried to put my life back together and figure out what I was going to do. I went to a great many parties, including going back to Burning Man, and performed a handful of times.

- in October 2007 I realized I couldn't stay jobless and in November I started work at an ISP in North Vancouver, which paid the bills but slowly sucked my will to live.

- in July 2008 I quit that job and became an independant contractor, working as the lead admin on a very large celebrity gossip website.

- in August I went back to Burning Man again.

Basically, I haven't really had any drive to work on techno for a year now.  I have, however, continued to make music, and in that year I've taken back the guitar and taught myself to play the mandolin.  I'm also singing again, which I had stopped for almost a decade for no good reason.

So what's different?  Lots of stuff.  For one, I've spent more time outside sailing (learning to sail larger boats, like 30-40 foot yachts), biking (on my rad track bike), rock climbing, going to the gym, windsurfing etc.  I'm in the best physical condition of my life, and it feels great. I'm living alone for the first time in my life, which is surprisingly fulfulling, and have learned to cook - strangely, it turns out that despite the past eight or so years, I'm actually kind of a neat freak, and left to my own devices I tend to eat an exceptionally healthy diet.  It's definitely been a year of discovery, and I'm a much happier person now.

I'm slowly creaking back towards making electronic music again - I've started fiddling with my Nord G2 a bit, and I foresee myself having a live set together again by springtime.
