Having a girlfriend that is a stupendous web geek does have its advantages - it's nice to have a search engine optimization expert in the house, for instance, and when I'm having problems with CSS she's right upstairs, able to be interrupted with my inane questions. Anyway, she's big into the whole web 'scene', and one of the new web apps that is making the rounds is 'Twitter'. It's basically a bridge between SMS, instant messaging and a website - I know, sounds simple, right? You set up an account, then people can 'follow' you around. Just like when you find a cool link and paste it to everyone in your IM list, now you can paste inane life-updates to your cellphone or IM client and everyone who's following you will receive them on their cell/IM client. It's microblogging - dumb, but it's proving to be fun. Trent is right though, it's lacking 'group' capability - ie, 'send this update only to my friends in Vancouver' as opposed to 'send this to everyone who's following me'. Anyway, if you're into it, my twitter account is, unsurprisingly, http://twitter.com/mux.
