MUXLIST ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.) This list is changing! <-- IMPORTANT BIT
2.) New website completed!
3.) Promoter Callout

Hola folks,

Welcome to the sixteenth email to the MUX announce list since its
inception in September 2003!  Wow, that's a lot of spam.  News time!

***************************************************************

1.) CHANGE IS IN THE AIR...

If for some reason this is the first time you've received anything from
me, do not despair - this is the announce list for MUX, a live-pa techno
musician based out of Vancouver, BC, Canada.  My music is pounding and
acidic, and best enjoyed at a loud volume, very late at night.

THE IMPORTANT BIT:  I've changed webhosts, and will be migrating this
list over to their list server this week.  They're VERY anti-spam over
there, and refuse to let me just migrate my email list of 500 or so
folks - they only allow opt-in announce list subscribers.

WHAT THAT MEANS: Sometime in the next few days, you'll receive an email
inviting you to be a part of the new MUX mailing list.  If you don't
want to be on my (incredibly low spam, often entertaining) mailing list,
just don't do anything, and you won't be on it anymore.

IF, HOWEVER, you do want to continue reading about my continuing efforts
to take over the world with acid techno, just hit reply on that message
(not this *current* message), and you'll be back on my list!  How simple
is that.

******************************************************************

2.) NEW WEBSITE COMPLETED!

Yep.  Read the title again if you like.  Once more for good measure...
and there you have it.  My new website is, in fact, completed.

http://mux.ca is the URL, same as always.  The new site may not look all
*that* different from the old one, but believe me, under the hood now
ticks a well-oiled precision machine, managing my content and allowing
me to flip it all back and forth nine ways from Sunday.  If you're a
web-guru, consider subscribing to my RSS feed.  If you're not a web
geek, you'll probably like the photo and video sections.  There's a
*tonne* of content on there, and it's all pretty easy to navigate.

Oh, btw, there's a bunch of *new* content as well.  I bet you thought I
didn't do any shows in 2006!  Well, judging by my old website, that's
how it appeared, but that couldn't be further from the truth - I've been
gigging quite a bit, just mostly out-of-town shows. :)

******************************************************************

3.) PROMOTER CALLOUT

This is the part of the email where I shamelessly beg for gig leads. ;)
I've got a full set (an hour-ish?) of hard 140bpm rave techno locked and
loaded in the sequencers, and I'm ready to throw it down at a moment's
notice.  All I need is a crowd and a stereo - do you know anyone with
those things?

I might as well mention it here: the company I was working for kinda...
fell over.  30 of us are out of work, but with severance cheques and EI
incoming, I'm not intending to go back to work for a few months.  That
means that I'm basically doing techno fulltime right now - you can
expect my summer sets to be insane!

I'm currently working on a new demo CD, but for now there's a recording
from a live show in Seattle back in December 2006.  If you are booking
for a summer party (big or small, I'll play pretty much anywhere), drop
me a line - there's tonnes of booking info on my website.  I'm cheap and
easy to work with!

******************************************************************

Well - that's pretty much all I've got for this round.  Thanks for
reading this far, and don't forget to check out the new website. :)

Cheers,
- Drew.

Subject: (mux): Trancemission 9 this weekend!
From: "Drew Smith (mux)" <drew@mux.ca>
Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2006 23:47:01 -0700

Hola folks,

I've been way too busy with work and studio projects lately to bother
you with spam - but if you're interested in the sorts of things I've
been up to, I've been trying to keep posting regularly to a blog,
viewable on my website, http://mux.ca/blog.html :)

It's that time of year again! THIS WEEKEND, July 22nd 2006, there's an
awesome FREE party out at a certain secret location thirty-something
miles outside of Squamish, BC.  The crew is Soundproof, who consistently
throw the most incredible parties with a serious oldschool vibe - and
the same night, the Vancouver Burning Man community is throwing their
annual summer event as well.  Expect about 700 freaks, geeks and party
folks, excellent production and great decor - and it's a bit of an older
crowd than your typical rave, I'd say the average age is about 25.
Playing or not, this is my favourite party of the summer.  The
Soundproof crew rules!

This is the NINTH year in a row for Trancemission.  Don't forget to
bring a flashlight and a sweater - the Weather Network says it's going
to be *gorgeous* out there this weekend, but it does get a little chilly
late at night.  The view of the sun rising over the sparkling glacier is
the kind of thing that can make your whole summer.  DO NOT MISS THIS
ONE!

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,
- Drew.

Hey folks,

Sorry for the interruption - this is just a quick note to let you know
that if you're in Vancouver, there is an event this weekend that you
might be interested in.  February 18th, 2006, RebelSoundSystem Vancouver
brings you "A Dashed Hope":

http://rebelsoundsystem.ca/vancouver/parties/A_Dashed_Hope/

Nine excellent DJs spinning ravey acid goodness, a solid, secure
near-downtown venue with a bar, *way* more soundsystem than necessary,
two visuals crews, wicked fun party people and thumping beats until five
in the morning.  Tickets are $15 presale, $20 at the door.

I'm not playing at this one, but I'm one of the two promoters... :)

Hope to see you out there!

Cheers,
- Drew.

From: "Drew Smith (mux)" <drew@mux.ca>
Date: Fri, 09 Sep 2005 17:50:57 -0700

Hola folks,

Just a very quick note (incidentally the thirteenth email to this
mailing list) to remind you of a fantastic event this weekend.

The Listening Room is a showcase of live-PA artists, digital image
artists and DJs, held yearly in the H.R. MacMillan Space Center (aka the
Vancouver Planetarium).  It's a tonne of fun, and missing it would be
sad.

There's about 100 tickets left; the past two years this show has sold
out by 10pm, so if you're interested, either show up *very* early, or
drop into the Planetarium any time tomorrow, before 5pm, to get advance
tix.  Tickets are $20, beers are cheap, and the venue is *incredible*...
something like three million dollars worth of lasers and projectors.

See http://www.listeningroom.ca for more info... hope to see you there!

Cheers,
- Drew.

Subject: (mux): Party this weekend!
From: "Drew Smith (mux)" <drew@mux.ca>
Date: Thu, 14 Jul 2005 13:11:09 -0700

Heyas,

This is the twelfth email to this announce list since September 2003.

This is just a quick note to let you all know about an awesome outdoor
party happening this weekend.  The location is a secret, you'll
absolutely never guess it in a million years - as a hint, it's thirty-
something miles outside of Squamish, BC. ;)

This party is rain or shine, though The Weather Network says sun:
http://weather.ca/weather/cities/can/Pages/CABC0279.htm

The crew throwing the party is none other than Soundproof, and the party
is 'Trancemission 8' - that's right, this is their *eighth* annual free
outdoor party!  If you've never been to a Soundproof event, expect an
extremely well planned and executed stage and dancefloor setup, friendly
and fun older party crowd (probably 300-400 people, mostly 20-30 years
old), excellent sound and visuals, and pounding techno!  This party has
historically had a tendency to pull ravers who haven't been partying in
a long time out of the woodwork - so if you haven't been to a party in a
while, and are fed up with the typical fare, this would probably be your
best bet for a proper, oldschool summer outdoor rave.  Chances are
you'll know people - maybe even consider bringing a few friends who've
never been to a rave?

Here are the flyer images:
http://lfo.fsck.org/~drew/T8_front.jpg
http://lfo.fsck.org/~drew/T8_back.jpg

Interestingly, there's also another event happening at the same location
- the Vancouver Burning Man crew are throwing their annual "Burn In The
Forest" very near by, so that's another two stages of DJs and a few
hundred more hedonistic party people, adding up to one hell of a night.

More information is available, of course, at Soundproof's website:
http://www.soundproof.ca

I have to say, Trancemission 7, last year, was the absolute peak of my
summer - standing at the back of the dancefloor at 8am, watching people
dance with the morning sun glinting diamonds off the glacier, gorgeous
blue sky, ice-blue glacial river next to me... I just couldn't wipe the
poo-eating grin off of my face.  It just doesn't get any better than
that.

Don't forget to bring a flashlight and a sweater - being near a glacier,
it gets pretty cold at night!  Hope to see some of you there - and if
you don't have a copy of my 2005 Live-PA Demo CD yet, hit me up at the
party, I'll have lots of extra copies with me. :)

Cheers,
- Drew.
