Rave rave, techno techno! I mean, studios are fun and all, but for me the real point of all this stuff is the dancefloor. Something deep inside keeps making me want to unhook all the gear, pack it up, drag hundreds of pounds of flightcases (ok, more like 250lbs total) into a car, and into a club or party, hook it up, play the techno, then do the whole thing in reverse. There is nothing finer than seeing a dancefloor moving to beats you've made, and the feeling you get guiding the techno up and up and up into a huge whirling vortex of sound, then DROPPING it... can't be adequately explained, but the rush is the most addictive thing ever. :)
"A Nightmare On Davie Street" was a joint production between Intimate Productions (aka Farshad and crew) and Pod6 Productions (aka our house). We made a deal with "Vibes" lounge, charged $10/head, and packed the place. About 200 people showed up (and I think legal capacity is around 180), and Granolaboy, Stormchild, Anisotropic, GIJody and myself rocked the dancefloor until 3am. This was a *three* room party - the other room had Farshad's folks; NUDLZ, Mack Hardy, Tantra, Johnny Fever and Team Trainwreck. The last room had no DJs, but was manned by professional doms hosting a dungeon full of BDSM equipment! Few escaped without a whipping....
Got a chance to play at "Reflections Cabaret", a gay-friendly nightclub in Halifax, Nova Scotia. WOW. I had no idea it'd turn out like it did - somewhere around 350-400 people turned out. I didn't even go on until about 2:30am, and judging by the email I got afterwards, I think I blew a few minds. :) I guess the East Coast doesn't see all that much live-pa techno!
Also spinning that night were DJ Giselle, spinning hard house and trance, and my good friend Malte 'DJ Slipmind' Wendlandt, spinning an eclectic mix of psy. DJ Tommyknuckles runs the night, and was a most gracious and friendly host.
Played a set at the clubnight "Traffic", hosted by DJs NUMIX and GIJody. Well, it was a Thursday night, which mostly means dead in Vancouver. There's three different techno clubnights in Van, and all three happen on Thursday nights. Meef.
The set went off wicked, regardless - a few dedicated dancers made it all worthwhile. :) Thanks to GIJody and DJ NUMIX for the booking!
The Listening Room 2004 was a *blast*, as expected. The party sold out by 5pm, we opened the doors at 9pm, and when we opened the doors to the Laser Dome at 10pm, it packed up pretty quickly. The lasers and lighting by Craig from Roundhouse Productions were phenomenal - I didn't notice at the time (preoccupied) how much work he put into making the lights and lasers sync with my set, but upon viewing the video clips later, I was wickedly surprised.
I shared the stage with my close friends Tom Schulz (appearing with guest Jon D. Banger), MAX POWER (Thomas and Rich), GIJody and Inject (Fish, Amrit and Jamie). The guys at Pound Recordings ran breaks in the second room all night, so folks spent a lot of time walking back and forth between the two stages, trying to absorb all the goodness.
"Noor" means "light" in Arabic (iirc), and was the name of this Mile 36 party thrown by the Beheshto and Ducky guys. An ambitious party, two soundsystems, two stages, but only about 150 people overall - everyone had a blast though. It got *cold* at night, but this time we were prepared. Visuals were done by Grady and crew, all live organic analogue fractal video feedback - it was *wicked*.
This party was on the same beach as "Trancemission 7", tho quite a bit smaller. Mind-bogglingly beautiful scenery and loud, pounding beats - it doesn't get any better than this. :)
