Heh. Well, yeah, back in April, I was in fact gigging again. At least I did one gig, and while it was a great deal of fun and an excellent launch to a summer of amazing adventures, all it really did was remind me that 2009 just doesn't have room for the dozens if not hundreds of hours of work needed to properly prepare for live sets.Instead of techno, I've turned my focus on my lifestyle; I've moved out of my basement and onto a 39-foot sailing trimaran named 'Tie Fighter', and I'm living the technomadic dream. The muse has told me in no uncertain terms that I am to focus my creative energies on writing music for the guitar and mandolin, and I have started singing again after an eight-year absence. Being 'MUX' was fun, and perhaps I'll find that the drive to create pounding techno beats will return, but for now I've packed up the synths and put them into storage. I've been sailing around the Gulf Islands, I'm working on an album of acoustic music, and I'm even tossing around the idea of dipping my toes in the world of DJing - but who knows? This year is about adventure, not about sitting in my basement staring at a computer screen.I'll leave this site online, but most of my web offerings are now being published on my blog site, http://disengage.ca.

Crazy! Flash forward another few months, and suddenly I'm gigging again. :)More info about the past couple of shows if you follow the 'read more' button, but the really important bit for you to take away from this post is just this:I AM NOW ACTIVELY SEEKING BOOKINGS FOR PARTIES! If you're throwing a dance party, or know someone who is, I'm available and ready to rock.

Back In The Saddle

Last Friday night I played my first show in just shy of a year... like... 11.2 months. Wow. I guess sometimes it's good to take a break, but that's a little ridiculous! It was getting to the point where I could hardly call myself a live-pa artist anymore. My friend Ross was in charge of the music for a biggish private house party, and pretty much told me I had to play, and wouldn't take no for an answer. I hadn't even plugged the gear in in six months or more. Strangely enough, when I did plug the gear all in, the sequencers were still full of techno. What's more, since I hadn't heard it in almost a year, I wasn't sick of it anymore!

I Am An Idiot.

Every now and again, I see something that seems poorly designed, and the way to improve on that design seems obvious. Being a nerd, I often cannot help myself, and often a small modification leaves me with something far better than what I started with.Other times, this compulsion bites me in the ass.*sigh*. I've not gotten any website email in a month or so, and it's all my fault. Click through if you want to know the details, along with another tale of idiocy. If you've sent me any email this month, please resend it and feel free to berate me.

Heh! There's something innately pleasing about doing something that 90% of the general public doesn't understand, even after you explain it to them. This week, I checked all my breakbeat loop .WAVs into a Subversion repository (http://subversion.tigris.org/). :DIn other news, I'm trying my damnedest to fend off job offers, but I think one might finally have broken through my barriers...

Studio Studio!

As of March 31st, I am now officially an unemployed bum a professional musician. We got a few months of severance pay, so I figure I can take these months and spend a fulltime dayjob's worth of effort in the studio, learning how to translate the ideas in my head and in my sequencers into finished, polished, sale-worthy recordings. Ideally, I'd like to start shopping some tracks around to labels, but with the way vinyl has been going lately, I'm wondering if it's better to put that time into developing a netlabel.Regardless, since work technically tapered off a couple of weeks ago, I've been spending a lot of time in the studio already, and have been inviting folks over to hang out...

MySpace Milestone

After just over a year on MySpace, my Friends list has now grown to over 500 people.I guess that's a milestone. I'm kinda failing to see the point of the whole 'huge friends list' thing - I mean, it's one thing to collect experiences in life, collect stories, collect acquaintances... but what kind of bragging rights do you get from having a huge list of MySpace Friends ?Is Tom really your friend?

Hurray! Furthermore, about freakin' time!I figured it was time for my website to join the current decade - my old site was using code from the HTTP 1.0 spec, which, while kitschy, ironic and viewable from 'lynx', wasn't really earning me any geek points. Ok, so Google loved it. Hopefully Google loves this new site too.If you spot any bugs, please let me know about them!

Studio Pics, March 2007

Erin took some updated shots of my studio this week, showcasing the current iteration. Frankly, not that much has changed in the last year - the studio remains my favourite place in the world to hang out, chill, listen to and create music. I can't believe it's already 2007 - the world just keeps whipping past, faster and faster every year.studiopics/mar2007
